MOROCCANS REDEEM PRIDE, BEAT SOUTH KOREANS
South Korea 0-1 Morocco
David Oku
After a humiliating outing against Germany in their first-ever Women’s World Cup match Morocco needed to turn things around quickly to avoid any more unwanted results against them. The challenge of facing the 2022 Asian Cup runners-up presented the opportunity for redemption.
The Lionesses of Atlas began the day’s game against South Korea like a house on fire and were rewarded with a goal 5 minutes in from a diving Ibtissam Jraidi header which gave the keeper no chance.
Taegeuk Ladies could have bridged the Moroccan defense moments later but Park Eun-sun saw her downward header just off target. Korea was fortunate not to concede more goals as they couldn’t muster a shot on target in the whole 90 minutes.
Morocco will take lots of confidence into their final group game against Columbia who booked a place in the knockout with a win over Germany.
