As former PDP chairman, Governor’s Aides and 1,703 others defect to YPP, at party’s office inauguration.

The atmosphere in Obot Akara Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State became electrifying as the people massively dumped other parties and declared their full support for the Young Progressives Party (YPP) on August 26, 2022.

The occasion was the official commissioning of the party office in Ikwen, an event that witnessed the defection of former PDP executive members and an aide to Governor of Akwa Ibom State, as well as over 1, 703 others.

The state chairman of the party, Apostle Nyanime Andy, who performed the unveiling, described the day as “a special one for Obot Akara” since they joyfully received a team of those who will change their lives for the better.

Andy said: “There has not been any development here because the leaders are not sincere. Now they are trying to stop you from supporting the YPP. Collect what they give you, because it is the collective money of everyone. Leave the ship that is sinking and embrace the YPP”, the state YPP boss stated.

He later handed over party cards to the Chapter Chairman “ for other decampees who will join us in the coming days”, the Chairman added.

The Chapter Chairman of YPP in Obot Akara, Mr. David Udoh, while welcoming the party delegation, also thanked the Obot Akara people who came in their numbers, despite the fact that it was a market day. “We are for YPP for development that we have never seen”, the chapter chairman added.

Mr. Archibong Emmanuel, a former ward chairman of the PDP in Obot Akara Local Government Area, while speaking on behalf of other decampees, maintained that the only way forward for Akwa Ibom State which has been ravaged by years of mis-governance, is embrace YPP and its fresh leaves for good health.

“YPP will give our youths employment, will settle the gratuities of our retired primary school teachers, and will end bad governance in Akwa Ibom State”, he told the crowd.

While speaking, Mr. George John Umoh, a former aide to the Governor of Akwa Ibom state, said he took refuge in the YPP since it was imminent that his former party, the PDP was a ship sinking gradually every day.

He promised to work with all other decampees to ensure the YPP’s success in the 2023 general elections, since it is the only party that offers hope to Akwa Ibom people.
