ABIA 2023: ASPIRATION BAZAAR OR DEMOCRACY AT WORK?
Following a statement credited to the Chairman of Abia Chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Rt. Hon. Dr. Allwell Asiforo; that the Party has zoned its Governorship seat to aspirants from Abia Central and Abia North Senatorial Districts, many persons have declared their interests to clinch the State’s most coveted seat.
While pundits think some of the aspirants are merely adding to the number, there are some others who you would ignore at your peril.
While Abians were wrapping their heads around the “sea of heads” that greeted the declaration by Engr. Enyinnaya Chima Nwafor at the State Party Secretariate, Ncheta Omerekpe stormed with his supporters.

Perhaps, another interesting highlight was the declaration by the incumbent Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko Chukwu. Almost simultaneously, torrents of persons matched the streets of Umuahia, terminating their carnival at the residence of Rt. Hon. Chinedum Orji (Ikuku), Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly, with the voices persuading IKUKU to throw his hat into the Governorship ring. While we consider this an interesting twist, given that the Speaker’s father, Chief T.A. Orji (Ochendo), the immediate past Governor of Abia State, is favourably disposed to power shifting to Abia North, we wait the Speaker’s response in the coming days.
