WOMEN’S WORLD CUP

SPAIN FEASTS ON ZAMBIA, IN A 5 – 0 WIN

When Spain is in the mood it’s difficult to stop them. Redondo, Rolfo, and the goal scorers today (Tere, Alba, and Jenni) have been in devastating form in New Zealand.

Tearing through defenses at will. They could have had this many goals against Costa Rica on Match Day 1 but for the brilliance of goalkeeper Solari who’s made close to 2-dozens of saves in the FIFA Women’s World Cup so far.

Spain had 22 attempts today which dwarf their number of shots from the opening-day win when they had 46 attempts.

With the win, today the Iberian Nation has qualified for the Round of 16.

The truth is the debutants are realizing that the World Cup is not the AFCON. Zambia like Morocco performed remarkably well a year ago at the Women’s Nations Cup won by South Africas Banyana Banyana.

Before the finals Zambia had encouraging performances notably the 3-2 victory over Germany and the slim loss to the Republic of Ireland.

The Copper Queens’ undoing against Spain was the inability to defend crosses into the box. Which has proven to be an Achilles heel for African teams at this showpiece.

Zambia, South Africa, and Morroco have been brutally punished with opponents scoring 15 times in the tournament by putting crosses into their box.
