OPEN LETTER TO THE MAYOR/TRANSITION CHAIRMAN ABA NORTH LOCAL GOVERNMENT
Dear Ide John Udeagbala,
Congratulations on your appointment as the Mayor/Transition Chairman of Aba North Local Government. You were not appointed just because you are a “billionaire”. I am sure your pedigree as an accomplished business man, serial entrepreneur and character gave you unprecedented milage. I want to also believe that since your businesses are thriving, Aba North under your watch will also thrive.
2. You have a Herculean Task ahead of you. You have been called to reenact prudence and probity, those virtues that ensured that your chains of businesses survived numerous meltdowns and recessions. Aba North as at today is more than a recessed economy.
3. Please, do not be a YES MAN, a regular Chairman who is an annoying rubber stamp and the Governor’s alter ego. We charge you to take charge. First, you must change the narrative of paying only salaries and then retiring funds spent on behalf of your local government. Retrieve your stamp and indeed the dignity of a local government Chairman.
4. Yesterday, I wanted to access Nkoro Street. Instead of using Okigwe Road, I had to run through Owerri Road doing more than 3kms for a journey of less than 200m. I also observed that Nkoro Road has remained dilapidated for over 20 years.
5. Sometime last week, I tried to locate someone around Olohson Street. In the process, I discovered also that all the adjoining streets around St Eugene’s Road connecting Olohson have been bad for as many years.
6. This is just a tip of the iceberg. Aba North has, may be, the worst roads and obviously collapsed infrastructure around here.

7. From where you live, down to the beginning of the rail, you will discover that there is no single functional Primary Health Care (PHC) Center anywhere that is owned by the Government. What this means is that you have been appointed the Mayor of a local government with a nearly non – existent heath system.
8. With no intention of deriding those who had been appointed or elected to serve as Chairman/Transition Chairman of Aba North before now, the only person who left a legacy and made citizens feel his impact is Chief Iboko Imo Iboko. He provided water, PHCs, functional markets and made most of our roads motorable. These are the commonest duties of a local government administrator. The others after Iboko were either naive, yes men, rabble rousers or just part of the number. History will vindicate the just while God will punish the wicked.
9. You have the tall duty of taking Aba Noth back from the clutches of poor sanitation, collapsed health system and intractable Road network. Also find out why there seems to be loads of workers with little or nothing to show for it.
10. For the ones you cannot do for lack of resources or other reasons, talk to the Governor. Let us feel the impact of a successful businessman being our “Mayor”.
11. Finally, I need to remind you that no matter how close you are to the man who appointed you, he cannot inherit the tragedy of poor performance. We will access you based on your performance. Remember Iboko Imo Iboko.
12. We will be back after your tenure to decide if you deserve a “handshake” or a “handcuff”.
