The Governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike has in a manner that shocked residents of Rivers State, announced ban of night clubs, night trading and prostitution in the State.

In a copy of the Governor’s NEW YEAR MESSAGE sited by BENUDECHUKWU.COM, the second term Governor assured Rivers citizens that the ban would “stop the harmful effects of these depraved activities on the moral development of children and society at large”
Gov. Wike also banned prostitution especially along Abacha road and surrounding streets particularly around Casablanca area of Portharcourt. The tough talking and acting Governor also enjoined security agencies to mount manhunt of all criminal elements engaged in illegal bunkering activities around Creek Road and other areas.
In a similar move, the Governor directed the Local Governnt Chairmen of Port Harcourt, Ikwerre, Obio Akpor, Eleme and Oyigbo to impound or remove any trailer, truck or vehicle parked on the streets beyond 48hours, within three weeks from new year day.
The Former Minister of Education also extended the ban to cart pushers who he identified as those that steal manhole covers for scrap metals.
BENUDECHUKWU.COM notes that there is palpable fear in Portharcourt as residents and businessmen imagine a city life devoid of night activities. While this ban is taking negative toll on the economy less than 24 hours after the announcement, it is not certain how long this ban would last.
