EMERGENCY NEC ON ATTACK ON ODILI’S RESIDENCE: RAMINBA CALLS ON NEC TO RESOLVE FOR ONE DAY NATIONWIDE COURT BOYCOTT AND PROTEST BY ALL BRANCHES

We of the Radical Agenda Movement in the
Nigerian Bar Association (“RAMNBA”) condemns in strongest terms the unlawful siege on
the Abuja residence of a Justice of the Supreme Court of Nigeria, Honourable Justice Mary Ukaego
Peter-Odili by night on Friday, 29th October, 2021 by officers of one or more of the Nigerian security agencies.
We call for investigation of security officers who procured the search warrant issued by a Magistrate Court in Abuja, based on misrepresentations to the Court, which has claimed to be revoked by the sitting Magistrate. We call for investigation of the said Magistrate and disciplinary action by the Federal Judicial Service Commission as well as the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal of the Body of Benchers.
We hold that false depositions before the Courts of law amount to criminal perjury. We call for the appropriate machinery of the law to be set in motion against the criminal consequences of the action of the said officers.

We welcome the statement of the President of the Nigerian Bar Association to convene an Emergency Meeting of the NBA National Executive Committee solely to discuss the issue and take a definitive stand on the matter holding today, 2nd November, 2021 by 4pm.
We propose that the Emergency National Executive Committee, which is being summoned should resolve for 1 day protest of all the Branches with the President of the Nigerian Bar Association and Chairmen of Branches leading the way.
We are also of the considered view that the appropriate disciplinary actions of the Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee and the Legal Practitioners’ Disciplinary Tribunal of the Body of Benchers should be set in motion against the present occupier of the Office of the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, who has demonstrated over and over again his willingness to violate the rule of law through abuse of the esteemed Office.
