ALEX OTTI, GOVERNANCE AND THE REALITY OF ‘WORSHIPPING’ TWO GODS
AN OPEN LETTER TO ABIA GOVERNOR ELECT (1)
Ben Udechukwu
Your Excellency,
In less than 48 hours, your age long dream of being Abia Governor will be a reality. About this time Monday 29th May, you shall have been sworn in as the 5th democratically elected Governor of Abia State.

Let me congratulate you for your steadfastness. No matter how anyone tries to downplay your victory, it is a huge feat. The essence of this letter is to remind you that when a man is in a position of authority, he begins to worship two gods. One, to the glory of those who want him to succeed and the other, for those who must do everything for him to fail. These gods are within the domestic staff, Party hierarchy/members, prospective beneficiaries of prebendalism, benefactors, public Servants and the dogged political class.
Already, Abia State is a conglomerate of four million medical doctors, four million environmental/sanitation experts, four million civil engineers, four million legal practitioners, four million financial advisors/experts and of course four million Media & Publicity experts. These experts are some of
the gods you must worship.
As soon as you are done with activities marking your inauguration, you will be replaying in your mind some of the realities like;
1. Living to your promise that by December 31, 2023 you shall have paid all arrears of salaries, pensions and gratuities owed civil and public Servants in Abia State. Already this tall expectation is the lot of thousands of Abians and their dependants who took your promise for granted and those who think you were not realistic.
2. Moving resources to Ukwa to site the Administrative Headquarters of Abia State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (ASOPADEC) to satisfy the yearnings of the Traditional Rulers, Town Union Heads, Women and Youths who were on your campaign trail.

3. Mobilising construction Giants Julius Berger to reconstruct Portharcourt Road and other major Roads in Abia.

4. Be intentional about returning shops to all their owners at A Line Ariaria International Market, Aba; who lost them to the State Government’s remodelling project. You will appreciate that this category alone has no fewer than 4,000 gods who you must worship to justify the confidence they reposed in you.
