…as IGP orders reorganisation of Police Cybercrime operations

The Inspector – General of Police IGP Usman Bala psc (+) NPM, NEAPS, fdc, CFR, has ordered the immediate reorganisation of the Cybercrime Units in the Nigeria Police Force to ensure effectiveness, efficiency and a formidable front against Cybercrime – related offences provided for in the Cybercrime Prevention Act, 2015. The reorganisation means that all the various units under the investigative departments, hitherto investigating cybercrimes, will be merged under the Nigeria Police National Cybercrime Centre domiciled in the Force Criminal Investigations Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.

The IGP equally ordered the appointment of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abia born Henry Uche Ifeanyi, psc, as the Director in charge of the newly merged Centre. DCP Uche holds a Masters Degree in Security and Strategic Studies from the Nasarawa State University, Keffi.

It would be recalled that DCP Uche, recently attracted recognition as the first Nigerian to be appointed Vice Chairman of the very respected Africa Heads of Cybercrime Unit INTERPOL at the 9th Africa Working Group meeting on Cybercrime for Heads of Unit held at Kigali, Rwanda.

DCP Uche as a digital forensics, financial crime/corporate fraud expert is reputed to have also  recorded successes in fighting crime and money laundering syndicates.
