ABIA 2023: HOW THE CANDIDATES STAND (2)

Across the State, Districts, Federal and State Constituencies, there are indications that hitherto political allies will be at each other’s neck.

1. Hon Darlington Nwokeocha (Darloo) is the current member representing Isiala Ngwa North/South Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives and former member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) now of Peter Obi’s Labour Party (LP) will be at daggers drawn with his former Party member Col. Austin Akobundu as they battle for the soul of Abia Central Senatorial District. Darloo, many pundits believe, a more known face within Abia Central will be contesting against the establishment which Col. Akobundu represents. Emeka Atuma of the All Progressives Congress (APC) is equally a formidable force given the seeming resolve of APC to clinch at least one seat at the Centre

2. BENUDECHUKWU.COM can authoritatively reveal that Hon. Nkeiru Onyejeocha, the incumbent APC Member Representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency will likely make a mince meat of perceived paper weights like Mrs. Loveth Ofoegbu of the PDP and Amaobi Ogah of the LP. Onyejeocha having done nearly 20 years in the Green Chambers is widely believed to have the experience, enviable track record and financial wherewithal to defeat her opponents. Amaobi however will be riding on the popularity of Peter Obi to record an upset.

3. Isiala Ngwa North/South Federal Constituency has all the trappings of a “battle ground” as Hon. Ginger Onwusibe of the LP, current member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency tests his strength against the former Chief of Staff to the Governor, ACB Agbazuere, a Professor of Laws and member of Ginger’s former party, the PDP. Ginger has suffered vilification and persecution from the establishment and may need to vote all his strength to prove that his touted grassroots recognition is not a fluke.

4. What looks like the fiercest battle may be happening at Aba North/South Federal Constituency. Emeka Nnamani, former member of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and member of the 6th Abia House of Assembly hopes to stage a come back through the House of Representatives. Maduabughichi Ahukanna of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) looks good to pull the rug off the feet of former Aba North Local Government Chairman, Alex Ikwechegh (ONYE OCHA N’ABA) of APGA and current member of Aba North/State Constituency, Hon. Chimaobi Ebisike. We have dubbed this, “BATTLE OF ABA BOYS”.

5. In Aba North State Constituency it is going to be a TRIPOD FIGHT between incumbent Aaron Uzodike, Prince Ahamefula Ikonne, popular son of the revered Traditional Ruler; His Imperial Majesty, Eze Isaac Ajuonu Ikonne and Destiny Nwagbara of the LP.

6. Osisioma South Constituency is pregnant with desires. It seems a straight fight between the incumbent Hon. Nnamdi Allen Nwachukwu and Hon. Fyne Ahuama (FYNE SERVICE) of the YPP. Nnamdi has every reason to lose sleep as Fyne looks good to upstage Nnamdi riding on the overwhelming popularity of Engr. Enyinnaya Chima Nwafor (Nana) the Governorship Candidate of the YPP, who is from Osisioma South.

7. Ugwunagbor State Constituency seems too close to call. Sam Nwanganga of the YPP seen as an avid grassroots mobilizer is determined to give the PDP a run for their money. The twist however is that Eze Nwanganga, the YPP candidate’s father, a staunch PDP member is a serving Commissioner in Abia State.

8. In Umuahia North (Ohuhu) State Constituency, Obed Nnaji Asiegbu, the former PDP Star boy, now of the YPP; is activating a showdown with five other political parties and their candidates who are either Moneybags or political protestants.
At the last count, Ugochukwu Ezeocha PDP, Hon. Smart Iheoma LP, Hon. Chris Akachukwu APP, Hon. Onyendi Okwulehie APC and Ugochukwu Ikpo of APGA are notable names/parties itching to replace outgoing Hon. Kelechu Onuzuruike of the PDP.

9. In Ohafia South, youthful and useful Arua Goodluck, an emerging Champion of the YPP does not seem to be seeing anybody or political party. It is left to be seen how Arua hopes to unseat PDP, a party that has dominated Ohafia political space since 1999.
