FROM THE STREETS OF ABA TO UK RED CARPET – THE STORY OF NORAH UBANI
Ben Udechukwu
When the girl child deliberately seeks to be truly successful, she breaks the ceilings; defies social and cultural hindrances, disrupts all age long narratives, not ashamed to try out several businesses, not to prove any thing to anyone, but to subtly announce that she is THE DISRUPTOR. That’s the short interesting story of Norah Ubani, the Isiala Ngwa, Abia State, made in Aba, multi talented, UK trained International Tourism, Hospitality and Event Manager.
HOW IT ALL STARTED:
Upon graduation in 2019 from Abia State University, the Environmental Resource Management skills Nora acquired in five years, challenged her to think outside the box. Her one year National Service sharpened her mental alertness, drive for entrepreneurship, thirst for financial independence and value addition. She would later admit that through practice and dedication, she horned skills in making beads, necklaces, bouquets, turbans, fascinators, hair pieces, costumes with bridal accessories as the icing. These skills were marketed through her pet NORAH PEEBLE ACCESSORIES.
Norah knew that there were legitimate streams of income. She only needed to take advantage of the huge and ready market. The Aba girl was interested in employing others and inspiring a generation of young entrepreneurs. As would every conscientious business person, she launched NORAH PEEBLE LOGISTICS. Norah understood the psychology of retail marketing and the threat posed by distribution network. She helped herself and also added another stream of income by bridging the gap of distribution.
Something happened. Come with me!
IN BETWEEN
As Norah made her way to the top, she took with her young entrepreneurs, whose businesses she promoted through her ABIA ENTERPRENUERS EXHIBITION, now in its 6th year. Norah attracted the benevolence of Engr. Enyinnaya Chima Nwafor, one of Abia’s unapologetic philanthropists, with special honours in Humanitarian services. This annual event sponsored by NANA bears with it the mark of goodwill, support; friendship and synergy, vintage Norah. Many upstarters have contracted breakthrough from the Exhibition.

Before the advent of the Exhibition, Norah had instituted a Quiz Competition for Secondary Schools and BACK TO SCHOOL WITH NORAH PROGRAMME. Back to School with Norah has three (3) graduates now, a nurse, an Engineer and an accountant. Many of the Norah scholars are still in the University now.
THE TWIST
In all the processes, Norah kept a catalogue of her contacts. She put all the “customers” in a pigeonhole called “POTENTIAL CLIENTS”. This Environmental Resource Manager birthed NORAH PEEBLE EVENT MANAGEMENT, a company that commenced operations from a pool of satisfied customers. It is usually easy to breakthrough when you hadn’t squandered goodwill, when you made diligence, rectitude and trust the major principles in your business.
The Isiala Ngwa Star understands the dynamics of event management, she appreciates the rising sophistication, as what used to be a favourite pastime; has become a flourishing businsss venture, presenting the most complex competition ever. Norah took the bull by the horns. She enrolled at the University of Hertfordshire, England where for two years she exposed herself to the rudiments of International Tourism, Hospitality and Event Management.
